9/23/2023 0 Comments Process lasso 2009I'm going to next add to the CPU Eater the ability to also create a foreground CPU consuming thread, to demonstrate the new Emergency Stall Recovery (which won't require you to click to another window like ProBalance would, since ProBalance ignores foreground processes by default, and ESR ignores nothing). Foreground threads can do MUCH more harm due to the longer time slices. Also, *remember*, these are background threads, not foreground threads in the test. It typically takes *far* fewer threads than the default CPU Eater setting. Note the default thread count is a little heavy handed, to cover certain high-end CPU types that are less susceptible to a stall. On most systems, you will be surprised how little it takes. Therefore, you can see just what it takes to bring your system responsiveness down to a virtual stall (when Process Lasso's ProBalance isn't active). You can specify just how many background threads (of NORMAL priority) to create, and at what CPU affinities. To any skeptics (understandable given all the snake oil in this market), I've also improved the CPU Eater demo application which can be freely downloaded from my server. However, I am determined to make v4 the best release ever, and this is the base of it. Overall, MUCH work remains, and some of this beta is not polished. This feature still needs more work, admittedly. this feature will step in (but only after there is no other choice). For instance, if you have a foreground process that is bringing your system to a stall, but ProBalance is ignoring foreground processes. Additionally, I've added a Emergency Stall Recovery system that goes into effect regardless of ProBalance settings. restart or terminate process if it exceeds quota). I've added this process CPU and MEM usage Watchdog (e.g. Already, there are many new features (some still half-baked at this stage) and *lots* of improvements. This new beta series is actually the start of the v4 code. I wanted to say a few notes about this new beta. As always, I thank everyone who uses my software, and appreciate those that continually help to clear up misunderstandings and doubts by new users. It's hard for me to give my own software less than 5/5 stars ). My rating does not affect the overall product score here (I don't think). That is why we do have to charge for a PRO version of the software, but we believe that's far preferable to ruining the integrity of your PC by tricking you into installing crap via deceitful installer bundles.ĭISCLAIMER: I am the author. We've got even more coming down the pipe, so hope you'll join us as we make a difference in the world of PCs.Īnd, as always, Bitsum *never* uses installer bundles. It's as applicable for new PCs as it is old - if not MORE SO. We think you'll be pleased, and welcome your feedback! If you've tried Process Lasso in the past, but it wasn't for you at the time - give it a new try. Some new things: Gaming Mode 2.0, ParkControl 2.0, SmartTrim, ProBalance Insights, and lots of general product refinement. As some may have noticed, we have been very active in 2014-2015. We would like to thank our loyal supporters of Process Lasso. With this semi-free edition, you may have to tolerate some non-intrusive nags, and advanced features may be disabled over time. It never expires, and core functions such as ProBalance, default priorities, and default affinities work indefinitely. For instance, trim the working set when a process's working set exceeds a specified amount, or lower the process priority class when an application exceeds a particular amount of CPU utilization for a specific duration. More advanced watchdog rules can be created to take any number of actions based on quotas and thresholds. Users can also limit the number of instances an application can have, or disallow processes from running entirely. These settings get re-applied each time the process is run. One can set save CPU affinities, process priority classes, I/O priority, memory priorities, and application power profiles. A graphical demo is available on Bitsum's site that demonstrates how this feature can save you from a total PC stall in a worst case scenario.įor more advanced users, Process Lasso allows automation and persistence of various process settings. Instead of boosting foreground priorities, which is ineffective and potentially detrimental, Process Lasso temporary lowers the priorities of select background processes when they may be interfering with system responsiveness. This feature is called ProBalance, dynamic priority optimization. It does this through dynamic adjustments to process priorities. Process Lasso is a unique new technology that improves PC responsiveness during high CPU loads.
